One of the questions that most of my clients ask is “What do you do before going to Disney?” Many of us open AND close the parks, in reality, and that usually means spending at least 10 hours inside the parks. All of them walking and having fun. (Crazy, I know!)
Whenever my family and I travel to Walt Disney World o Disneyland Resort, we wake up super early. A lot earlier than usual, the three of us have come to realize that the earlier we get there, the more rides we can enjoy. To be honest, as soon as I land in California or Florida, I am not tired anymore… I don’t get upset when my alarm goes off at 5am, nor when we go to bed after midnight. I am READY to enjoy everything that Disney has to offer.
Going back to the 4 things you MUST to do prepare for your trip to Walt Disney World, here they are:
1. Get ready to walk. Over the last few years, I have averaged between 19,000 and 24,000 steps, which in my case(I take very short steps) is between 11km-37km. Because of this, about two-three months before the trip, I start walking around the neighborhood. My intention is to build resistance, I want to be able to handle not only distance but walking time. Remember I like to open AND close the parks.
2. Hydrate. It may seem silly, but getting used to drink water IS a “thing”. The “recommended” amount of water per day is 8 glasses, right? 64oz give or take… well, it shouldn’t surprise you that while at the parks, that you will be drinking an average of 100oz a day. And if you aren’t doing it, your body will feel it and it won’t be fun. Dehydration can cause many issues, and no one wants to ruin their vacation over it.
3. Comfortable shoes. You WILL need them! Never EVER plan on wearing brand new shoes to the parks. This is why walking before hand at home, will help you determine which shoes are better for longer distances. I have personally tried converse, flip flops, tennis shoes, sandals, flats, toms… every time, there was some friction on my feet and needed band-aids! If you have found the perfect shoes, please let me know. I always start the day with one pair and bring flip flops in my park bag and switch mid day.
4. Pack in advance. Even though, you are likely to find that almost everything you need is available at hotel gift shops, there is nothing worse than getting to your destination and realize you forgot something. I have compiled a list of the most important items to bring with you. You can download and print here.
